Altars and Shrines
Here are some examples of modern altars and shrines.
An altar and sacral areas created by Quintus Poppaeus Sabinus Altars QPS Featured occasions are the Saturnalia and the Floralia.
Below, a basic altar arrangement. This consists of a marble tile placed on a pedestal. There are two standard candles, two scented votive candles, two small vessels for pouring libations, and a small silver shell shaped dish to be used as an offering bowl. The libation vessels could be placed on a side table. An incense burner could be used instead of scented candles. The standard candles could be placed to the side or omitted. For a more Hellenic style, these additional items should be available nearby: barley, sea salt, bowl for holy water, and dishes to hold offerings before they are placed in the offering bowl. This arrangement is intended for indoor use where it may not be possible to have an actual altar fire.
