Sovereignty and Self Rule
Welcome to the online embassy of Antoninia, the Antonine Imperium.
Antoninia is an organization designed in the form of an independent and sovereign state, and it possesses all of the privileges and responsibilities that are possessed by all independent and sovereign states. As defined by its Constitution , Antoninia is an independent, sovereign, self ruling entity.
Antoninia does not possess any sovereign physical territory. It is a landless state. The sovereignty of Antoninia is derived from the conscious and voluntary will of its citizens, and not upon the possession of land or territory, or upon the use of force. The possession of land and territory may be desirable and may be achieved some day, but such possession is not necessary for our purposes and does not provide the basis for Antoninia's claim to sovereignty and self rule. Antoninia is intended to be an empire of culture and spirit, of art and piety, without any fixed physical boundaries.

Purpose and Intention
The purpose of Antoninia is to support the revival and restoration of selected elements of ancient Western civilization, and in particular the polytheistic Pagan religions and cults of the ancient Mediterranean world, with an emphasis upon ancient Greece and Italy. Antoninia is named after the Antonine Emperors of ancient Rome, who presided over one of the high points of ancient Western civilization. Read the Declaration of Sovereignty provided at the end of this page for an official statement of Antoninia's purpose and goals.
Antoninia is inspired by the best elements of ancient Greek and Roman society, but it is not an attempt to copy those societies in every detail, nor to exactly recreate any ancient society as it existed at any particular point in time. We are inspired by the best elements of the past, but we are not required to revive or repeat the mistakes of the past.

Declaration of Sovereignty
Imperial Decree of January 16, 2757 AUC (2004 ce)
Antoninia, Imperium Romanum Hellenicum, is hereby declared to exist as a sovereign and independent national state. Antoninia is Imperium Novum, the New Empire, and it possesses complete and total sovereignty fully equal to that of any other sovereign and independent national state, with all of the rights and responsibilities that are possessed by other independent national states.
The purpose of the New Empire is to explore and study the culture and civilization created by the ancient Greeks and Romans, and to revive and continue the development of the best elements of that culture. The Roman Hellenic Imperium of Antoninia is dedicated to reviving and supporting the polytheistic Pagan religions and cults of the ancient Greek, Roman, Italian, and kindred peoples. We want to revive the ancient festivals and ceremonies, and to rebuild the temples of the Gods and Goddesses. We want to restore the fabric and substance of classical Greek and Roman Paganism in all of its diversity and variety, in both form and spirit, to the extent that this is possible.
The Antonine Imperium is a new empire of culture and spirit, of religion and art, of thought and attitude, rather than an empire of land and territory. It is not intended to replace or supplant any existing sovereign state. This does not mean that the New Empire may not someday possess territory of its own. The Roman Hellenic Imperium of Antoninia may claim, at a location yet to be determined, physical territory that shall be recognized as sovereign and independent by other independent national states. Antoninia may also possess property and territory within the boundaries of other national states, which shall be subject to the laws of those states.
Citizenship in Antoninia is open to all persons who wish to participate in the activities of the New Empire and who wish to help accomplish its goals. The citizen members of the Roman Hellenic Imperium of Antoninia possess dual citizenship, and retain any citizenship status that they may hold in any other sovereign state, with all of its rights and responsibilities, while also possessing citizenship in the New Empire.
Declared and reaffirmed before the Immortal Gods on January 16 in the Year of the City 2757 AUC (January 16, 2004 ce).
First declared and proclaimed before the Immortal Gods on March 21 in the Year of the City 2754 AUC (March 21, 2001 ce) as a replacement for the Declaration of Sovereignty dated November 26, 2752 AUC (November 26, 1999 ce).
